PELLENC WIRE LIFTER

A system for all types of trellising

Useful hints

The prerequisites for effective mechanized vine lifting
and tying are top quality conditions, and for the
use of suitable and correctly tensioned lifting wires.

ANCHORING THE LIFTING WIRES:
The lifting wires must be anchored on the first and last stakes of each row at the same height, either in line with the staples or no more than 10cm above. The anchor point must never be below the highest line of staples (for two-phase lifting). The liifting wires must be spaced 10 cm apart at the anchoring for easy automatic handling by the lifting/tying machine.

Mandatory :

  • Do not cross over or twist the wires.
  • Install the lifting wires before the growth of the young shoots or at the end of the pruning season.
  • Check and optimize the wire tension once a year.
PREPARING THE ENTRY INTO THE ROW:
Manually place the foliage between the wires over the initial 3 or 4 meters (10 ft or 13 ft) of the row, so that the wine lifting/tying machine can move easily into the row and automatically pick-up the wires.

TENSIONING THE LIFTING WIRES :

The tension depends on several parameters, such as the length of the rows, the type of wire used, and the sturdiness and density of the foliage.
The lifting wires touch the ground at about 10-15 meters (30 ft or 50 ft) from first stake. We advise you:

  • Install anchor U-bolts and tension adjusting chains on the anchor stakes, so that the optimum tension for the wires can be determined in actual working conditions.
  • Place the lifting wire tension adjusters at the row ends.

IMPORTANCE OF THE VINE TRAINING METHOD :

The easiness and quality of lifting depend on the variety of the vine (natural erect or falling growth) and on the vine training method.
For the best result, we recommend the "Cordon" or the "Cane Pruning" method.
